Jennifer's Body review

Jennifer's Body may be called a chick flick, from the number of women involved in the movie. Jennifer's Body was #5 at the box office this weekend, earning $6.8 million, against a cost of only $13 million. The movie will end up making some money, but it has been declared a flop by many reviewers.



Megan Fox on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien promoting Jennifer's Body. She looked sensational and sounded very human and likable. Unfortunately Megan described her movie as a horror/comedy/science fiction, and this has been the major problem in the promotion of Jennifer's Body.

It should have been marketed as a chick flick, with its feminist themes, poking fun at the horror and teen comedy genres. And let's not forget the heroic transformation of Amanda Seyfried's character.



Megan Fox put in a fine performance. She played the sexy but cold high school princess, and the demon-possessed undead, with ease. Fox was suitably foxy in a cheerleader uniform and in her underwear, and injected much passion into her makeout session with Amanda.

These scenes were put in to get teenage boys to come see the movie, but may have alienated other moviegoers. The R rating of Jennifer's Body (for sexuality, bloody violence, language and brief drug use) also hurt its cause. The kissing scene between Megan and Amanda is beautifully shot and passionate, but just appears out of nowhere and borders on lesbian erotica. In an early interview, producer Jason Reitman had said that in the movie, "We've got Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried getting into a fight in their underwear. That'll be fun."



They should have kept it down to just a pillow fight in underwear. For what it's worth, Amanda Seyfried said in an interview about the kiss with Megan: "It was a little strange. She's so feminine ... She has such soft, nice, full lips. But she had the same smell as my sister." Sorry, that won't get people to come see the movie; a pillow fight would have been better!
